About
Why “Nourish?” This blog is about food, but really we just use food as a jumping off point to talk about everything else. Food, of course, nourishes our bodies, but we can also speak of nourishment for our spirits, our minds, our churches, our families, our friendships, our planet, and our communities. Here, we look at food, and the meaning behind food—what our time at the table says about how we think about the body, the stranger, the friend, the truth, the past, and the future. We explore how the common stuff of life meets Christian praxis, and how mealtimes and (my favorite topic) the practice of hospitality brings nourishment in the most holistic sense.
Why “blog”? Well, because this is a blog. Not a book. Not a magazine. Not a bible. Not a masterpiece. Not an academic journal. A blog, with all the limitations and strong points (and poor grammar and misspelled words- sorry) implied by the medium.
Why “ ‘zine”? First of all, because I’m not the only one who will write posts. I have some friends who will chime in from time to time and I will happily be the editor, of other, more brilliant people’s ideas. Secondly, I went to middle school in a city, in an era, when grungy, punky D-I-Y reigned, and the coolest kids always were making ‘zines, some homemade rag announcing the newest cause or the greatest band. I am not nearly a radical or a revolutionary, but I want to be someday, so I want a ‘zine too.
